What is Random Chord Generator
Choose one root-position chord from twelve roots and seven types. Cmaj7, for example, contains C, E, G, B. The preview plays the notes together using plain synthesized tones in equal temperament.
How to use Random Chord Generator
Choose a root and type or leave either random. Generate Chord shows the result below the controls. Play Chord starts a short preview; Stop ends it. Copy Chord saves the symbol and notes. Changing settings or using Clear removes results and stops audio.
Features
84 choices cover four triad types and three seventh-chord types. Random roots and types are selected independently. Notes follow chord spelling, including double sharps where needed. Each choice uses one root-position voicing, with no guitar fingering or staff notation. Later draws may repeat.
Use Cases
Keep a root and randomize types to compare chord colors. Fix Major and randomize roots to practice spelling. Use a chord as a songwriting starting point and choose the surrounding harmony yourself. For scale practice, use the random scale generator.
FAQ
Is this a progression?
Each result is one chord. Successive draws do not share a key or follow voice-leading rules.
Why does E# appear instead of F?
They share a pitch in equal temperament, but E# preserves the third of a C# chord. Double sharps appear as ##.
Does audio need an external service?
The browser synthesizes tones after Play Chord. If audio is unavailable, notes and copying remain usable. This is a reference tone, not an instrument recording.
