Is the Random Name Picker Fair?
Yes, when every name appears once, each name receives one equal-sized wheel segment and therefore the same chance of being selected. When a spin starts, the browser uses JavaScript’s Math.random() to choose the wheel’s initial velocity. The wheel then slows using fixed, visible deceleration rules, and the name beneath the pointer when the animation stops becomes the result.
The selection logic runs entirely in your browser: names are not sent to a server, and the result is not chosen manually or changed after the spin. Duplicate names remain as separate entries, so a name entered twice receives two segments and twice the chance of a name entered once.
For transparency, this is a casual random picker rather than a certified drawing system. It currently does not issue a verifiable randomness certificate, publish a replayable seed, or claim an independent third-party audit. Use an audited drawing service when laws, prizes, money, or formal compliance require independently verifiable randomness.
How to Use the Random Name Picker
- Enter between 2 and 60 names in the Name Input Area. Separate names with commas, semicolons, pipes, Chinese list commas, or line breaks.
- Select Apply Input to Wheel to build a wheel from your list.
- Click Apply Names to Wheel, then spin when the updated names appear on the wheel.
- Select Spin or tap the wheel to start.
- Let the wheel stop automatically, or tap again to request a gradual stop. The selected name appears below the wheel.
Before spinning, check the list for misspellings and duplicates. A duplicate receives another wheel segment, which gives that name an additional chance to be selected.

How the Random Selection Works
Every name is displayed in an equal-sized segment. The wheel starts with randomized motion and slows before the pointer identifies the winning segment. The picker is designed for casual decisions, classes, games, and participant selection; it is not a cryptographic or independently audited drawing system.
Random Name Picker Use Cases
Classroom Student Picker
Teachers can paste a class list and randomly choose a student to answer a question, lead an activity, present a project, or take the next turn. For balanced participation, remove a selected student before the next spin when everyone should be chosen only once.
Giveaway Winner Picker
Add eligible participant names and spin the wheel to choose one giveaway winner at a time. Remove the winner, apply the revised list, and spin again when you need additional winners without repeats. Always review the entry list and follow the published rules and legal requirements for your promotion.
Teams, Games, and Speaking Order
Use the wheel of names to decide who goes first, assign a team captain, select the next player, choose a volunteer, or set a presentation order. The visible wheel makes the process easy for a group to follow.
Everyday Group Decisions
When several people are equally suitable, a name wheel can settle the choice without a long discussion. It is useful for chores, lunch picks, party activities, meeting roles, and other low-stakes decisions.
