What time is it?

Click New Clock to start a reading practice question.

What is Random Clock Generator

Practicing the same clock time soon becomes a memory exercise. Choose a difficulty, read a fresh clock face together, then reveal the answer and explain what each hand shows.

How to use Random Clock Generator

  1. Choose Whole hours, Half hours, Quarter hours, Every 5 minutes or Every minute under Time difficulty.

  2. Optionally enable Show 5-minute labels to add a small minute-counting guide around the dial.

  3. Click New Clock. A stationary clock appears below the controls. Read the short, thick hour hand and the long, thin minute hand.

  4. Click Show Answer to reveal the digital time and an explanation. Copy Answer copies the revealed time; Hide Answer hides it again.

  5. Click New Clock for another question. Changing difficulty clears the current question. The clock uses a 12-hour dial without AM/PM or seconds.

Features

  • Five levels with 12, 24, 48, 144 or 720 possible times.
  • Hour hand moves between hour numbers as minutes advance.
  • Answer hidden until revealed; optional 5-minute labels.

Use Cases

Start with whole hours and identify the short hand first. Move to half hours when the child can identify the hour, explaining that the short hand moves halfway toward the next number. Quarter-hour and five-minute steps introduce counting around the dial. This is a visual practice activity; it does not grade typed answers or keep scores.

FAQ

Does the clock move in real time?

No. Each question is a stationary randomly selected time so the learner can look carefully before answering.

Why is the hour hand between two numbers?

It moves gradually with the minutes. At 3:30 it sits halfway between 3 and 4, just like a real clock.

Do half-hour questions include whole hours?

Yes. The levels use steps across a twelve-hour dial: 60, 30, 15, 5 or 1 minute. Half-hour practice includes :00 and :30.

Does it distinguish AM and PM?

No. An analog twelve-hour face does not distinguish AM from PM. This activity focuses on reading hours and minutes.
