What is the Random Commander Generator?
Choose one Magic: The Gathering commander when you want to explore a different deck idea. This version uses a curated snapshot of 100 unique cards returned by Scryfall’s commander-eligibility and Commander-legality filters, ordered by its EDHREC field. It is a subset, not the full Commander card pool.
How to use the Random Commander Generator
Leave Any color identity selected, or choose an exact combination such as White / Blue. Press Generate Commander and open View card details on Scryfall to read the card and research your deck. Copy the name to save the idea.
Features
- 100 distinct card identities, without extra weight for reprints
- Exact color-identity filters, including colorless when represented
- One commander per draw
- Direct links to card information
- Local generation from a dated dataset
Use Cases
Find a new deck-building project, set a friendly brewing challenge, or explore a color combination. The filter uses color identity, not just the card’s mana cost. A White / Blue selection matches exactly those colors and excludes cards with additional colors.
